Love without possession

The hands of life have made for you a soul,

A soul that, if not perfect, is for you;

Let love for them be that which makes you whole,

For the hands that made their heart made yours, too.

Fear not that you have made this choice alone;

Love has chosen you as its expression,

To honour your other, but not as one you own,

For the heart is true that loves without possession.

Life demands that each of us must grow,

So let them live, let the changes come,

That love may gently guide the way to go,

As light that pulls a flower towards the sun.

By this you’ll know when life moves you apart,

You can find the other beating in your heart.

Essence

I sought your essence through the darkening light,

To see the source of all your smiles and frowns.

I pondered how to serve this lovely sight,

Recraft your beauty with my verbs and nouns.

Your eyes, that like an autumn ocean shine,

Resist the pen that tries to paint their blue,

But my pen betrays your perfect rhyme

By painting what it sees and is not true.

I would not wish to capture what is free,

I’ll leave the pen with newfound mission –

To let your silent beauty speak to me,

And choose not words, but rather choose to listen.

What I found I won’t and can’t reveal,

In words that work in order to conceal.

Why I love you

I love you for the kindness of your heart,

That loves on all its seeing eyes will land;

That gives just as the gentle winds impart

Soft seeds upon earth’s ever open hand.

Your love does not with cleverness define

What things are worthy to receive its worth,

But blesses surely as the sun will shine

On all that lives and breathes on this green earth.

On the days when sadness wraps your eyes,

I know that love is dozing in your mind;

Just as the clouds that cover up our skies

Can’t stop the sun from endless life behind.

To love you is to love all that you do;

Through you I learnt to love this life anew.

I would find you

Fear not to go, for I could never lose you,

I’d find you even in the darkest night,

I’d see your eyes within the stars that choose you,

For in the dark it’s easier to see your light.

I’d know each breath you take has filled the air,

Which floats through space to be the same I sip;

And in the river’s water, find you there,

Each touch of it a touch upon your lip.

I’d know a part of you where the sun might shine,

Within the clouds I would then find your face;

You cannot be lost, when in this heart of mine,

That knows no distance where it found your grace.

If pulled apart, a lesser love might fall,

But you have left, and have not gone at all.

Source

It’s true the moon glows through the darkest night,

And through the clouds the sun will always shine,

But earthly symbols can’t contain your light,

Which knows not how to fade with time.

You are not like the moon, nor as the sun,

But are the living air through which they weave,

Where sky and space, where sea and time are one,

I’ll see your light within the air I breathe.

This earth cannot contain what life made free;

Your love is light that human eyes can’t see.

Soul on the skin

I do not think it’s shallow to love your looks,

Though I’ve been told that beauty lies within;

There are few covers that reflect the books,

But depth is in the shallow of your skin.

Eyes like these do not betray your grace,

For theirs is beauty of the soul inside,

Your heart is written on your open face,

While in your eyes I see true light abide.

If I might stare into your face a while,

I am not choosing what cannot compete,

For in your lips your soul has formed a smile,

Both within your eyes are found complete.

There is no part of beauty more than true;

To love one is to love all parts of you.

In the garden

I asked you not to walk on the weeds

But you could not help it.

I am very glad,

For I do not want the weeds

Now that i have seen the flowers

That grow where you have touched the grass.

Bliss

When I hold you

I cannot keep my eyes open

And in the quiet dark joy of you

I drift back into me.
