Quatrains
A series of quatrains I have written and posted on Instagram.
—
A morning song that I have heard
Too many times to say,
But I would like to thank the bird
That chose to sing today.
—
This morning I decided to smile
At everyone I see;
I’m not sure why I smile tonight
I guess that one’s for me.
—
The sea is wet, the sun is warm,
And timber’s made of wood;
Care can soften every storm,
And hate can do no good.
—
I gave my heart to you,
But then I could not see,
That what I gave to you,
I also gave to me.
—
I searched about for wind,
I looked to no avail,
But I could not find the breeze
Until I set the sail.
—
I see orange on the leaves,
The shortening of the day,
Autumn rolls its sleeves
To clip the grass away.
—
I love Octobers cold
Urging I let go —
Though they appear as gold
These leaves died long ago.
—
I love October’s change
That shows me how to shed,
The yellow parts of me,
That are already dead.
—
The light never stays,
By four it all has gone.
If they are shortest days,
Why do they feel so long?
—
Another day, another storm,
At least I learnt my part:
If I want to stay warm,
I’ll have to use my heart.
